The walk started with a steep ascent of Jacob’s Ladder giving us all a good, albeit unexpected, cardio workout. In complete contrast to last week’s sunny weather, we found ourselves in a haze of murky fog and drizzle. This added a spooky backdrop to our exploration of the old Calton Hill cemetery, a favourite haunt of the body snatchers back in the day. Although visibility remained poor on top of the hill, we enjoyed a tour of the Observatory and other historical monuments.
Proceeding to the bottom of the Royal Mile, we discovered some of the old town’s hidden gems before finding a suitable Howff in which to hae a wee dram.
