Glen Sherup Horseshoe, Glen Devon
The walk on 14th of July was a circular tour of the hills either side of Glen Sherup, including Tarmangie Hill, Whitewisp Hill and Innerdownie hill and the Glendevon Woodlands in very good weather.
Starting from the Glen Devon Woodland carpark, we followed a forestry track to the dam of the Glensherup Reservoir, crossed the dam and followed a grassy path on the north side of the reservoir. The path runs below the hill called Ben Shee and then climbed up to a grassy track that runs on high ground allowing for superb views. We turned left onto this track and stopped at a high point before Scad Hill for refreshments.
This area is part of the massive Glendevon Woodlands regeneration project by the Woodland Trust, who have planted native trees across three glens in the area. The higher ground was open and ungrazed and we had amazing views over grassy Ochil hills, towards Glen Eagles and the Southern Highlands.
At the head of the glen we turned and climbed the summit of Tarmangie Hill. At 645 m this was the highest point of the walk, opening up the views now to the south and towards the Firth of Forth. We headed on to Whitewisp Hill and from there to Innerdownie Hill where we had our lunch stop in beautiful weather. We then started to descend Innerdownie, turning into the forest and returning on a forestry tracks back to the carpark.
